The first factor to consider is competency-based training: a graduate should be demonstrably competent in the trade, not simply have completed time in a program.
Compare the additional training included, the recognition of the certification, actual open-water bottom time and the qualifications of the instructors and supervisors.
Questions to ask
- Is the certification recognized where you intend to work?
- How much actual open-water bottom time is included?
- How deep will students train?
- What technical and safety credentials are included?
- What is the total cost including equipment, housing and food?
- Are instructor credentials publicly verifiable?
